The IRS recently sent notices to identify theft victims that stated the PINs they must use to file their tax returns for 2015. The “CP 01A” notices, dated January 4, 2016, erroneously stated that the PIN was to be used for 2014 returns. If you have been a victim of tax identify fraud and received such a notice, you should use this PIN when filing your 2015 tax returns. Please be sure to include this IRS notice with the rest of your tax documents, as we will need this PIN to file your return this year.
